Heat Related Illnesses and Their Symptons

Like some plants, both animals and human's health can be effected by higher heat temperatures.

This summer of 2025 begins June 20, 2025.  With temperatures over 100f degrees in some areas of New Mexico, USA , it already feels like summer.

I texted Gemini to see what is the risk of high temperatures to humans and some of the risks and symptoms mentioned were:

HEAT RASH: Tiny, itchy bumps on the skin from trapped sweat.  Usually manageable at home by keeping the skin cool and dry.

HEAT CRAMPS:  Painful muscle cramps or spasms (legs, arms, belly) often due to sweating a lot during exertion.  This is a warning sign that more severe illness could follow if you don't cool down and rehydrate.

HEAT EXHAUSTION: A moderate heat illness that can quickly progress to heat stroke.  It occurs when you lose too much water and salt.  SYMPTOMS: Heavy sweating, weakness or tiredness, cool/pale/clammy skin, fast/weak pulse, muscle cramps, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, headache, fainting. ACTION: Move to a cooler environment, loosen clothing, apply cool/wet cloths, sip water. SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF SYMPTOMS WORSEN OR LAST LONGER THAN AN HOUR, OR IF VOMITING OCCURS.

HEAT STROKE: A LIFE-THREATENING MEDICAL EMERGENCY where the body's temperature regulation system fails.  The internal body temperature gets very high (typically above 104 degrees f or 40 degrees Celsius).  SYMPTOMS: Throbbing headache, confusion, slurred speech, dizziness nausea, vomiting, hot/red/dry or damp skin (sweating may stop or be profuse), rapid and strong pulse, fainting, loss of consciousness, seizures.  ACTION:  Call 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately.  While waiting for help, move the person to a cooler place, reduce their body temperature with cool cloths or a bath, and fan them.  DO NOT give fluids to someone with heat stroke.

If you have questions or concerns about heat related illnesses consult your doctor, or what the temperatures are going to be where your going to be, consult a weather channel.
