Iceberg Lettuce Bolted picture-6-18-2025 |
The Iceberg Lettuce I had planted early in spring had bolted. I was looking forward to having a salad but the baby birds decided they wanted some and had claimed if for themselves. I was able to observe the birds, finding out they preferred iceberg lettuce over Butter Crunch lettuce-at least these baby birds did. I watched as the new lettuce leaves grow, thinking I might get a salad. Was not destined for me. The baby birds reclaimed the lettuce. Both kinds of lettuces had bolted soon to produce flowers and seeds. I tried a leaf of lettuce on both kinds after it had bolted and they had turned bitter.
