Squash Plants Growing in the Garden

Squash plants have male and female flowers.  The male will produce only a flower, whereas, the female flower will grow the squash.  In this garden the squash is Yellow Squash and Zucchini squash.

Ants pollinate. 

 The squash plants have hollow tubes that their large shady leaves are attached too.  Be aware that they are prickly like tiny thorns. It might be better if you wear some gloves when handling them or just be careful and aware you might get pricked.

It is advised to not pick the zucchini squash until it is over 5 inches long. 

 Don't wait too long either if you plan to eat it.

over producing squash that are not reaching maturity. 

These squash plants have large leaves that provide plenty of
shade to the squash as it grows. Perhaps those large leaves are
also letting its gardener know to not over water as they
protect their squash.
