A Basil Moment this Summer

Basil is a herb and it has beautiful leaves.

You might have tasted it in some tomato 🍅 sauces.

It has a distinct smell and is part of the mint family although

it does not smell or taste like mint.

The leaves are picked, rinsed and can be frozen in a freezer bag

with olive oil until ready to use.

These basil plants get the morning sunshine
☀ and the after noon shade.

Basil plants will eventually produce flowers
and clusters that contain their blackish/brownish seeds.

You can check the clusters to see if they have developed seeds
or you can wait until the clusters have dried up and turned brown
to harvest the seeds.
