Melons Hanging Out with the Sunflowers.

This morning I noticed

a melon hanging out

with the sunflowers.

Can you find the melon?

Hint: The melon is in the middle.

Picture below shows

 the small melon up close.

Looking at the lower part of the sunflowers

I noticed another small melon.

Can you find that melon

 in the picture below?

Hint: The melon is behind a leaf, partially exposed.

If you like playing hide and seek

then you might like growing melons.

There are several different types of melons.
You can usually tell the difference
by its leaves or pattern or
lack of pattern that develops on a melon.
Some melon seeds look the same and others don't.

WATERMELON

Melon is grown out of a female melon flower.

Melons develop on the female

 flower of the melon plant.

Pattern on this small melon looks like a watermelon.

Don't know what kind of melon?  Look at its leaves.
Cantaloupe, honeydew leaves are different
from the watermelon leaves. As well as the patterns of
the mentioned melons.

If you see melon yellow flowers

 then you might find

some developing melons .

 Hmm...must be a watermelon.

Corn Stalk with Tassels and Silks

Corn stalk with its tassels.

Tassels pollinate the silks

The corn 🌽 cob with its corn kernels start developing after the silks form...if conditions are ideal for the corn to develop.

If not then the corn 🌽 might not develop at all, or be underdeveloped...have a few corn kernels on the cob.  The corn 🌽 cobs might be smaller in size.

Silks on a cornstalk.

The silks are pollinated by ants and the wind.

A Tassel removed from the other tassels on the silks.

Hand pollinating is when a tassel

is removed from the tassels that

have developed on the top

of the cornstalk.

The removed tassel is rubbed on the silks
that had developed on the lower part of the cornstalk.
Picture shows a removed tassel touching silks on a cornstalk.
Rubbing the tassel on the silks is known as hand pollinating.

Potatoes πŸ₯” And a Critter in the Garden

Not only did I find a few potato's to harvest this morning,
I also met a little critter in the cauliflower garden
after removing some of their eaten-on leaves.
I suspect it might had been at least one of the critters
that has been munching on the cauliflower leaves.

Cabbage Leaves Gathering

Cabbage leaves gathering together.

Earlier this summer this cabbage had wilted

and a couple of its leaves had to be removed.

Now its leaves are starting to gather to gather.

 Waiting for Cabbage to flower?
Uh Oh....did not plant several plants?

"FLOWERING:  Cabbage requires a cool period before plants will flower.
The flowers are perfect but will not self pollinate (self-incompatible),
so be sure to plant several plants to ensure adequate fertilization
and genetic diversity.
The perfect flowers are insect-pollinated;
the pollen is viable only for a short time."

Veggie Growth Spurts in the Garden

Yesterday a few of the plants in my garden
went through a growth spurt
Such as...

2 Cucumber plants and 1 Zucchini

1 of the PEPPER PLANTS

Some of the Okra Plants

2 Corn stalks with their tassels.

Several of the Corn stalks grew their tassels.

Corn with tassels no silks yet.

This summer some of the corn grew, at different times so when one of the tassles had died out due probably to temperatures over 100 degrees (Allah knows best) there was no other tassels yet from the other corn to pollinate its silks therefore....no corn 🌽.

Tassels of the corn stalks pollinate the silks to develop the corn 🌽.

Corn stalk tassels up close that pollinate silks to develop its Corn 🌽.

And one of the cornstalks
not only grew its tassels more
but the stalk itself grew a little bit taller.

Corn stalk with tassles no silks yet.

 A few things
noticed in the garden
yesterday morning.

Zucchini Plant Depending Where You Look

When looking at a
Zucchini plant you might
only see its large leaves.

Zucchini plant.

Or you might see along with its leaves,

yellow zucchini flowers.

Zucchini plant

Then perhaps not only did you see
the Zucchini plant's large leaves and its yellow flowers,
you also might have seen
 a Zucchini or 2!

Zucchini plant with flowers and Zucchini.

It just depends where you look.
Same zucchini plant, same day, different angles.

Sunflowers...No Matter What Size

No matter what size...

Small, Medium or Large

Sunflower 🌻 Seeds can be found in different sizes of sunflowers.

Dried out sunflowers with leaves and seeds.

Today I spent part of the morning gathering some sunflower seeds.
If not in a hurry to use the sunflowers seeds, the seeds can be stored/held on their natural environment...the sunflower🌻.
If you like decorating with dried flowers
then be on alert for some decorated dried out sunflowers as
you are looking for the sunflower 🌻 seeds.

Useful Things

This year more basil seeds developed in my garden.

Basil seeds develop in clusters on a stem.

Usually it's enough to use a tweezer to

remove the seeded cluster from the stem.

Using tweezers to remove individual Basil seeded cluster
from its stem.

Time consuming using tweezers?

Then gently crush the cluster petals

to release the basil seeds.

The seeds will no lounger be inside clusters.
