ZUCCHINI SQUASH

SQUASH Cucurbita spp.

Parthenocarpy: Development of fruit without fertilization.
Cross-pollination of squash by cucumber may 
occasionally result in parthenocarpic fruit.

ZUCCHINI SQUASH IS UNDER THE CUCRBITA pepo VARIETIES

Squash plants are insect pollinated.  


The Zucchini male flower is straight and thin.

Zucchini squash Female flower has an overy 
resembling that of a squash.

SEED SAVING?  
Summer squashes are fully mature for seed collection
when the rinds are hard and yellowish.

When harvesting zucchini squash or removing dead leaves
it is ideal to wear some gardening gloves.


Zucchini plant has hollow C. pepo stems are hard, prickly,
and enlarged at the point of attachment.
