SEED Sizes Don't Let them Fool You

Don't let seeds fool you.  Some seeds may be tiny,

Other seeds small but not as small as others,

Pine Cones with a pine cone seed from Pine Tree
pictured below.

that still does not mean that the plant will be small...

A big tall Pine Tree

Subhanallah!  Allah creates what He wills.

Seeds come in different sizes.

Cabbage Plant Before and After the Shade

The cabbage, a basil plant and a bean plant were
shaded on some days that the temperatures were over 100 degrees f.
How did they do? I noticed that the cabbage had not withered as much as it did previous to the burlap shade on hot days this summer.

Pictures below show a few days later:

Cabbage, Basil and Bean plants

I had planted several cabbage seeds this year.
This is the only one that continued to grow.

Cucumber, Okra and Corn Sprouts

Not only egg shells can be used for planting seeds...
plastic water bottles can be reused planting
a variety of sizes of seeds in them.

The plastic water bottles, shown in picture above,
were cut at the top of the bottle then seed
starting soil, a bit of water was added,
then a seed was planted in each bottle.
waited a few days....

Empty egg shells and carton
REUSING EGG CARTON AN EGG SHELLS FOR PLANTING SEEDS: Save an empty egg 🥚 carton.  As many as you think you might need to use.  Be mindful when cracking open each egg 🥚 that you plan to use for planting seeds.  Crack carefully near top portion of the egg 🥚 shell, enough opening to release the egg 🥚 from its shell.

Carefully rinse any left over egg 🥚 white from the shell so not to crack it any more.  Then place the egg 🥚 in the egg 🥚 carton until ready to plant. Some people do not like 👎 using egg shells for planting for various reasons.  The egg 🥚 shell does not decompose fast and before you know it, its time to transplant the young sprout into a bigger then the eggshell container.  That is why it is suggested when cracking the egg open allow enough opening for the egg to exit the egg shell.

Basil This Summer

Basil (Herb)

Basil is a herb.
These Basil plants took
the heat after several days of temperatures
higher than 100 degrees f.

Basils

Several Herb "Basil" growing in container.

Group picture of some of the Basil growing

Some basil seeds were planted
in egg shells.  Some sprouted.
how long can they grow in the eggshell
before being transplanted?
I am going to find out.  If Allah wills.

Basil sprouts

Pictured below this basil plant
has been growing this spring/summer
and has been developing seeds.
Basil leaves lower part of plant and its seed clusters
on top of plant.

Basil Seeds are usually black

Basil seeds are in pretty little clusters.
You can end up collecting over
a thousand seeds with one plant.

MELON 🍈 SPROUTS

MELON 🍈 SPROUTS

ZUCCHINI SPROUT

That's right.
I had watched a few gardening videos
and they were saying
"Plant Zucchini in July"
.....So I did.

ZUCCHINI Sprout

Others suggested clearing some of the grass growth from the area
around the Zucchini Plants and cutting
some of the stem/leaves of the Zucchini plants that had died.
...So I did, spending a part of the morning clearing the
area around the corn 🌽 and zucchini plants.
I did not take all of the grass out just trimmed using my sissors.
Below is a before trim picture of part of the area.

Burlap Shade Cloth

Burlap shading area on hot summer days

Burlap and palm 🌴 tree stems

put to use as shade cloth.

Burlap shading area on hot summer days

Ties could be put on both middle sides of the burlap along with the four ties that were sewn on each corners of the burlap.

Rocks are under the burlap providing additional support to uphold the palm 🌴 tree stems that are partially inground and the stones also lift the burlap a little more from its sagging.

Corn 🌽 area is exposed.  Zucchini waiting to sprout is covered on the hot summer days that are supposed to be over 100 degrees f.

I am not sure how the shade burlap will do if its windy.
